Mammootty’s upcoming movie Munnariyippu has always kind of stayed in the shadows when it comes to promotional campaigns. Even the trailer release came out without any official ‘hype building’ tactics and it looks and feels like the movie is a unique one that intends to speak for itself.
Yes folks, for better or for worse, no marketing hoopla for this one.
Anyway, the release date of the movie kept getting postponed for unknown reasons, and the fans who were talking about the movie seem to have moved on to other big releases of the festive season – but now finally, we have an actual date!
Munnariyippu will officially hit the big screens on August 22nd!
The film, which of course stars Mammootty, also has a host of other big names in the cast; the notable feature being that four veteran directors have taken up acting roles in the flick and will share screen space.
The always vivacious and talented Aparna Gopinath will be playing the female lead in this suspense thriller.
“The movie will live up to its tagline, which is The Deadline,” says scenarist Unni R, who penned the script. The film is being directed by Venu, the veteran cinematographer turned director.
This will be Venu’s second directorial venture after Daya, which came out over a decade and a half ago. Mollywood fans would remember Daya as being another unique story in the annals of Malayalam cine history, with its Arabian Nights style narrative and Manju Warrier donning a male disguise for a major portion of the flick.
So will Munnariyippu live up to what the talent behind the screens and on it suggests it would? Let us wait for the big day and find out.
