Rosshan Andrrews and writers Bobby – Sanjay must be having the celebration of their lives now as not one, but two of their flicks are in the mainstream media spotlight for all the right reasons! Their movie How Old Are You which just got released this last weekend has turned out to be a phenomenal hit and marks the grand re entry of Mollywood’s sweetheart Manju Warrier to the big screens – and now it has been reported that their previous film Mumbai Police is getting remade in Bollywood!
Unfortunately, according to the sources, Rosshan will take a step back from the director’s chair for the Hindi version and hand over the job to Neeraj Pandey of ‘A Wednesday’ fame. But nonetheless, it was their original version that got this acclaim and recognition, in no small part due to the actors Prithviraj, Jayasurya and Rahman who gave a brilliant portrayal of the three cop buddies who go up against the Kochi underworld.
Crossing the language boundaries and aiming for universal appeal has become a trend of sorts in Mollywood with bilingual movies and remakes being not just a dream now but more or less the norm to adhere to when it comes to standards. The Malayalam movie Traffic, directed by Rajesh Pillai, too is getting a Hindi remake.
Now in Mumbai Police’s Bollywood adaptation, the cast will be a new one too, as expected, and Prithviraj’s character in the original, Anthony Moses, will be played by none other than the dashing John Abraham. So it definitely looks like the remake is going to be a big production with some big names in the mix. As of now though, the rest of the cast and crew still remain unknown or not yet decided upon.
So the year has finally picked up for Mollywood with some drama, politics, national laurels and of course great movies!
