After staying away from the Telugu Industry for 2 years, Trisha finally made a comeback to give a spine-chilling experience with her ‘Mohini’. Staging a dual role, Trisha worked really hard. Touted to be a horror thriller, Ramana Madhesh of ‘Madhurey’ and ‘Arasangam’ fame penned the script and helmed the project as well. S.Lakshman Kumar bankrolled the movie under Marvel Worth Productions whereas Prince Pictures distributed the film. Vivek-Mervin composed the tunes for the film. R.B.Gurudev handled the camera. The poster and trailer have stirred a good response about the film. Let’s see if the movie succeeded in reaching the expectations.

Story:

Trisha in Mohini

Vaishnavi (Trisha) is a popular chef goes to London with her assistants Balki(Swaminathan) and Panju(Yogi Babu). There she meets Sandeep(Kackky Bhagnani) and falls head over heels in love with him. Sandeep also introduces her to his mother(Poornima). One day, while enjoying a boat trip, Trisha finds a conch shell. She blows it and a female spirit enters into her body. Her friends in no time realise that she is possessed. The spirit in Trisha is Mohini (also played by Trisha) who finds that Sandeep is connected with the villain (Mukesh Tiwari) and decided to kill them both. Why Mohini wants to kill them and what happened in the ending forms the rest of the story.

Performances :

‘Mohini’ is an out and out Trisha’s film which portrayed the best in her. This is definitely a career-best performance by this ‘Nayaki’ actress. She staged a dual role as Vaishnavi and Mohini and impressed the audience. The movie hinted that Trisha has worked really hard for this film. Bollywood actor Jackky Bhagnani played the lead in this film and showcased his acting abilities well. The romantic track between the leads is good. Suresh and Poornima Bharadwaj played the supporting roles in the film and did a good job. The comedy scenes involving Yogi Babu, Ganeshkar, Swaminathan and Jangiri Madhumitha will make the audience laugh hard.

Technical Aspects :

The first thing that impresses the audience is the taking of Ramana Madhesh and his narration. instead of embedding some funny scenes and making it a horror comedy, Madhesh made it a horror thriller and grabbed the audience attention with the interesting story. Despite adding some unwanted comedy scenes in the middle, he made sure that the movie is not going out of track. With a social message on child abuse, he impressed the audience. Production values are really good. R.B.Gurudev’s cinematography helped the movie big time. Vivek-Mervin’s music is topnotch. Aruldev’s background score is amazing.

Verdict:

‘Mohini’ is not at all a stereotype of typical horror films which features the leads entering into a haunted house and fights against the supernatural forces. Instead, Mohini gives a never-experienced-before ride to the audience. However, in terms of story, it is somewhat predictable and the movie finishes with a climax of regular horror films. it also discussed some social elements such as women safety, child abuse etc. The movie focuses more on explaining the supernatural elements in a scientific way. They introduced a new scientific concept called ‘epigenetics’ which is intriguing. Overall, ‘Mohini’ is a well-executed horror thriller and a worth-watching film but it could have made more sense if it was made in a much better way.
