A day after her husband was arrested for allegedly assaulting her father, actress Vanitha on Wednesday approached the state police chief saying the case had been foisted on her husband, Anand Raj.

Hours after her complaint, suburban police officers said they had registered cases against her father Vijayakumar, mother Manjula and half-brother Arun. “My husband and I approached the police immediately after the incident occurred on November 7,” Vanitha told this newspaper after meeting DGP Letika Saran on Wednesday. “Our complaint was against my brother Arun, who assaulted me and my husband when we tried to pick up my son Vijay Sri Hari from my father’s house in Maduravoyal.”

She said they went to pick up nine-year-old Vijay that day because he had an examination the next day.

“However, my father was in an intoxicated condition and did not want to let my son go,” she added. “He abused me and started pushing me around. When my husband tried to intervene, Arun assaulted my husband and me. We had to go to the police for help.”

She also pointed out that after lodging the complaint, some police personnel escorted her back to her father’s house so she could take her son with her. “After my father lodged a complaint on November 20, the police arrested my husband on Tuesday, but there was no action on my complaint dated November 7,” she added.

Later on Wednesday, however, the police said a case had been registered against Vijayakumar, Manjula and Arun for wrongful restraint and voluntarily causing hurt.
