Multiple kinds of delays haunted the movie ever since its inception.
First it was the death of ANR and then delays in post production work of the movie.
Akkineni Nageswara Rao died on January 22 but was reported to have completed filming for his role but for a song that was planned to be shot with him.
He had also dubbed for his role in his death bed.
“Bring all the dubbing equipment and do my dubbing for Manam before I get worse, or you will get a mimicry artiste to do my dubbing”, Nageswara Rao told to Nagarjuna 15 days after he had a surgery.
In early February 2014, the old look of Shriya Saran in this film was leaked into the Internet. The photo of Shriya draped in a traditional Sari embellished with jewelry received shocking response from the public.
Few days later, actress Neetu Chandra posted in her twitter that she played a cameo in this film along with a pic of Nagarjuna and Herself during the shoot.
In the second week of April, Raashi Khanna confirmed that she made a cameo appearance in the film. She added “I was asked if I would do the role and I thought why not. After all, I am going to be part of a milestone film and it’s the first time three generations of actors from ANR’s family have come together.”
All these events revealed the suspense of the film thereby letting the people know that these celebrities were doing a cameo in the film.
In an interview, when quizzed about what made him think about this casting, Nagarjuna said,
“After 100% Love, I thought that it was the best time we three had to work. Even my father said that Chaitu had done a very good job in that film. He stressed me to make things fast, saying that he was aged and he had little time.
We heard many stories but all of them were typical grand father, father and son stories, which are very routine things. Then Nithin’s father Sudhakar Reddy called me and suggested to hear Vikram Kumar’s story who was doing ‘Ishq’ then. We liked the story immediately after hearing it. It seemed very fresh and magical. But as the movie was very important one for us, I asked Vikram to prove himself in Telugu movies and promised him that we would work if ‘Ishq’ became a hit. Vikram had shown me the film much before its release. I liked the movie so much that I gave a green signal to ‘Manam’ project.”
The film stars the 3 generations of the Akkineni family – Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Akkineni Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya.
Samantha and Shriya Saran play the female leads in the movie.
Super Star Amitabh Bachchan has also done a cameo in the film.
The film is a period drama which spans 100 years lying between 1920 and 2020 with a reincarnation angle in it and is based on the concept of eternal love.
The film’s dialogues are written by Harshavardan, while Anoop Rubens has composed the music for the film.
Only time will tell if this movie’s worth the wait!
