Munnariyippu, starring Mammootty and Aparna Gopinath in the lead roles, is a unique movie that has stayed in the shadows for a while now, the team behind the flick choosing not to employ any major promotional tactics.
In fact, even the trailer of the movie was released without much ado but the sheer intriguing nature of it and the overall tone of the film has caught the fans’ attention.
The movie was originally supposed to release in June and then it kept getting postponed. Now the hopefully final delay has been announced and the release date has been set for August 15th. Apparently, the makers of the flick did not want its release clashing with the rains, the world cup fever and Ramadan festivities.
The plot of the film revolves around Raghavan (Mammootty) who is an ex con and a journalist played by Aparna Gopinath who is doing a series of features on him. Raghavan, who seems like a simple, intelligent and ordinary man, maintains his innocence of the double homicide he was found guilty of years ago. The trailer of the film felt like it had the makings of a drama and an investigative thriller of sorts.
The movie also has the attraction of four film directors appearing on screen in acting roles.
Munnariyippu has been directed by Venu. The script of the movie was penned down by R Unni. This flick also has the rather offbeat feature that it has no songs, dances or fight sequences.
It feels like a foreign movie with its streamlined approach and elegant noir vibe, yeah?
In any case, now the fans wait eagerly for the big day..
