Mammootty starrer Munnariyippu, directed by Venu and scripted by R Unni, is slated for release this May. The movie, which apparently has the profession of journalism as one of the pivotal themes, also has another unique and exciting feature – four veteran directors will star in the film!
Yes, that’s right director Joshy Mathew and director/actors Joy Mathew, Renji Panicker and Prathap Pothen will be on screen in this one. Reportedly, all four play journalists and Joshy Mathew’s cameo occurs in a bar scene where he plays a senior media professional, Chandraji.
That’s not all with that running theme – actor V K Sreeraman will play a columnist and Saiju Kuruppu will be a literary agent.
In fact, the leading lady of the movie – the talented and enterprising Aparna Gopinath- too will play a journalist named Anjali who is penning down the story of Mammootty’s character who is an ex convict but otherwise an ordinary man.
Aparna, though Malayali by birth was born and brought up in Chennai and has a shaky, anglicised Malayalam accent and had trouble, she admitted, with the heavy dialogues in the movie. But given the gravitas of the project and the sheer experienced talent involved, the fans can be sure Venu made the right call casting the exuberant starlet and that she managed to pull it off in style.
The film has been produced by Ranjith and that detail too being added, Malayalam movie fans need only look at the impressive credentials of the cast and crew mentioned, to know this movie is going to be something special.
A project involving the megastar, Venu, Ranjith and four other film makers who have graciously agreed to share screen space?
Well, well… let’s just say the fans eagerly await that promising day which fast approaches.
