A small time Tamil actress Sangeetha alias Saritha met a Kollywood director Selva at a lodge in Vadapalani, Chennai on March 5, 2007 for a movie discussion and she expected a major role in his film and also money from him. But the debutant director Selva told her that he was not in position to offer both (money and major role).
Sangeetha, who nursed a grudge against the director for not being paid, strangled him and fled from the spot by locking the room door. After that incident Police arrested Sangeetha and she was remanded in custody but later she got bail and went into hiding for seven years. Police caught her again in 2014 and filed a charge sheet against her.

After three months of cross examination of witnesses and arguments, the verdict was delivered on Friday. The first additional sessions court judge Chandrashekar sentenced actress to life imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 for murdering director Selva.
