After playing a real-life duchess, could Keira Knightley be on her way to playing a real-life princess?
British newspaper the Daily Mail reports that the 26-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean beauty is at the top of the list to play the late Diana, Princess of Wales in an upcoming biopic about the ill-fated royal, who died in 1997 during a car chase with the paparazzi in Paris.
According to a source, film company Pathe—which scored hits with the 2006 royal biopic The Queen and Knightley’s 2008 offering The Duchess—has already begun work on the project with a projected 2011 release date, and the company and wants Knightley on board to play the lead role. The film will chronicle Diana’s early life and on through to her stormy marriage to Prince Charles and her eventual death. Pathe is said to be interested in bringing The Queen star Helen Mirren on board as Diana’s mother, Frances Shand Kydd.
