The Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, is expected to be formally elected unopposed as the party president for yet another term on Friday at the conference of party delegates at Mahbubnagar.
Mr Rao will announce the future course of action of the party to achieve Telangana at the meeting. The TRS which is 10 years old now, is expected to pass some resolutions on various issues confronting the Telangana region, including one on the political situation with a focus on injustice done to the region and a stern warning to the UPA government for not implementing its promise for a separate state.
More than the resolutions, the address by Mr Rao will be important. According to party sources, he may announce an agitation after May 13 if the Centre is not going to make any new favourable announcement on Telangana. Though technically the TRS has completed 10 years on April 27, and a huge public meeting is held every year on the party’s formation day, this year’s public meeting was differed due to the uncertain political situation in the country due to elections for five state Assemblies and it decided to convert it into a delegates conference. Later, due to the sudden death of Satya Sai Baba, the TRS once again postponed the Mahbubnagar meeting to Friday.(DC)
