Yesteryear south Indian heroine and then popular Tamil television anchor Kashturi had a brief stint in Malayalam cinema years ago when she starred opposite Jayaram in Chettan Bava Aniyan Bava, and now she’s back in Mollywood playing a pivotal role in Rajesh Pillai’s Mili.
Mili is a woman centric film which stars Amala Paul in the lead and Nivin Pauly in an important but short role. It has been reported that Amala will be appearing quite glamour – less in the film, that is to say ‘ordinary looking’ to fit her character well. The title role of Mili is an introverted girl with massive inferiority complexes who has to fight against the odds thrown at her by society.
Rajesh Pillai has said that the movie will be an inspirational one and will carry an underlying socially relevant message like his previous hit flick Traffic. He also confessed another secret – he wasn’t the first choice for director, K V Prakash was!
Apparently, KVP heard the story first from Mahesh Narayan and later recounted it to Rajesh who fell in love with it and the character of Mili.
“I realized that Mili was me! I have complexes and problems and found a resonance with her that way, but KV Prakash is just the opposite… he’s so cool and collected. I begged him to let me have the movie and felt thrilled when he suggested me to Mahesh, who agreed to it.”
The movie which also stars young starlet Sanusha Santhosh will be Amala Paul’s last movie before her wedding this June, and according to recent reports she plans to retire from acting once she’s married.
Kasthuri, supposedly, will be playing an ophthalmologist who is also a home maker and a huge (almost maternal) support to Mili. Nivin Pauly’s character in the flick is said to be her brother.
The movie sounds intriguing and with Rajesh Pillai’s and Nivin’s track record, looks promising as an entertainer…
