Kamal Hassan is the versatile actor in Indian film Industry. No actor in India has portrayed or tried the roles played by him. Success, failure did not matter to the Universal Star but just trying something different and entertaining the audience. 1.  Vichitra Sodharulu (1989)

Directed by Singeetham Srinivasa Rao and produced by Kamal Hassan himself. Kamal played three characters in the movie. But the dwarf character was challenging of all. Speaking to Hindu in 2008 at Vishakhapatnam director Singeetham revealed the secret behind the look of Kamal. Special shoes were ordered for Kamal for the dwarf role. Kamal had to fold the knees and wear the special shoes for the straight angle shots. For the side angle, a ditch was made to hide Kamal’s leg from feet to knees and Kamal wore the special shoes to already folded legs and director’s assistant named Japan made sure to maintain the correct depth of the ditch and also the level of camera. Cameraman P.C Sriram needs special mention for the effort and Kamal had to practice 15 days to get the walk right.

 

2.   Indrudu Chandrudu (1989)

Indrudu Chandrudu directed by Suresh Krishna and Produced by Rama Naidu under Suresh Productions is another milestone in Kamal’s career. In the movie Kamal played two characters one old character Mayor and other young character. The Mayor character was very challenging. In a interview with a T.V. channel Kamal revealed that he needed to put an extra gum on the upper lip for the old look and for the nose he cut the nib of the feeding bottle and inserted in his nose for it become huge. The dubbing for Mayor’s character by Balasubramaniam needs special mention.

In Guna movie Kamal played mentally affected person. The song “Kamani Anbodu” composed by Illayaraja is still a classic. The movie is directed by Santhana Bharathi and produced by Alamelu Subramaniam.

 

4.   Avvai Shanmughi (1996)

Avvai Shanmughi dubbed into Telugu as Bhamane Satyabhamane directed by K.S. Ravi Kumar Kamal acted as 60 year old lady. For this movie Kamal Hassan hired Hollywood makeup artist Michael Westmore. The makeup used to take five hours and remained only for five hours.
