Well, not in the philosophical sense of “aren’t we all students in life” but in a very real sense actually. The Tamil remake of the smash hit Malayalam movie Drishyam is what has made the Ulaga Nayagan go back to school, in a manner of speaking.
No, he is not actually going to school but he is busy learning. What does the legend have to learn at this point in his career? The actor is known for being well versed in most aspects of filmmaking and is a multi talented artist. But he also happens to be a humble man and one who is dedicated to his craft.
So the star is now busy learning the very particular Thirunelveli dialect of Tamil for the flick. This is because the story in those parts and the actor wants to get in character completely – accent and all. Now that’s attention to detail and a craving for perfection!
The movie has been officially titled Papanasam, and Kamal will start shooting for his portions on August 19th, according to sources.
After much speculation, it has been more or less confirmed that the actor’s real life spouse, actress Gauthami, will be playing his onscreen wife in this one. The role was originally played by Meena in Malayalam, and though she was considered a leading candidate for the role in the Tamil version as well, she declined for other reasons.
Last verified reports also indicate actress Asha Sharath who played another pivotal role in the original will be essaying the same in the remake as well.
Director Jeethu Jospeh who helmed the Mollywood film will hold the megaphone here as well.
A string of lawsuits from Ekta Kapoor to a Malayalam filmmaker citing copyright infringement and intellectual property theft had put a temporary halt on the production of Papanasam but it looks like all is quite now on that front.
Let us hope things go smoothly and we get to see Kamal Haasan in yet another intriguing avatar – with a Thirunelveli accent of course!
