Kaaviya Thalaivan, directed by Vasantabalan and starring Prithviraj and Siddharth along with Vedika and Nasser, is by far one of the more unique movies to hit Kollywood soon. The crew today have released the first look teaser of the movie, which lasts a little over 30 seconds but it is more than enough to get the sensational and colourful vibe of the flick!
The movie is about the stage artists, specifically two fictitious ones, in early 20th century Tamil Nadu, when theatrical shows for the masses was the most popular form of entertainment. The golden age of south Indian stage acting with multiple performances, vibrant music and bright, gaudy decorations fuelled by unparalleled showmanship of a select few.
This is the setting and the crux of the movie but told as the life stories of a handful of characters in a pristinely rural setting or so the teaser shows us..
Apart from the versatile acting displays of Prithviraj and Siddharth, both appearing as ‘characters within characters’ in the sneak peeks of the film – one cannot but applaud Prithvi’s guts to play or at least pose as a well adorned female character like in the poster – the other magnificent thing to look forward to in this film is the music.
This is one of the most ambitious, old school musical films in a long time and who else but AR Rahman to get it right! According to rumours, Rahman even backed out of a Hollywood project to work on this one as he had to research for six months on folk music and the background of the era to compose his melodies.
And it must have been worth it because there are at least 20 songs of varying lengths in the motion picture, composed by the master himself!
The movie is being produced by YNOT studios.
