Director Ram, who made the national award winning movie Thanga Meengal last year, faced a similar delay in releasing his flick too and he is all too eager to extend his support to the Jigarthanda director Karthik Subbaraj.
This is the letter he wrote him:
Dear Karthik Subbaraj
I heard that your Jigarthanda’s release has been postponed by a week. Even, my Thanga Meengal suffered a similar fate. The dailies said that Thanga Meengal will release by July 26th, but finally when the movie released in the theaters, it was the 30th of August.
I know how it feels when you announce a date, and when the release gets stalled. I learned how hard it is, around the same time last year. Everyone offers their own opinions on the delay, and that makes matters worse.
This night will be hard on you. Don’t worry. The victory after these hurdles will be sweeter. Those victories rewrite history.
And, congratulations on the success of the Hindi remake of your debut movie, Pizza.
Finally, I believe that your Jigarthanda will be a cinematic delight, just as Madurai’s Jigarthanda is.
Well, that’s about as supportive as you can get, one would say..
Jigarthanda was due to be released this Friday, but it was postponed abruptly and without notice to the cast or director, by the producer Kathiresan of Five Star Films to avoid clashing with the success of Dhanush’s Velai Illa Pattathaari which came out the week before.
Siddharth was furious over this and went on to do a series of tweet rants accusing Kathiresan of not showing enough respect to the cast and crew and of bowing down to the will of third parties… implying that Dhanush who has a good relationship with the producer was somehow involved in this issue.
Kathiresan has, of course, denied all of this.
The movie, anyway, is set to come out on August 1 now. It has been touted as a musical gangster story and stars Siddharth and Lakshmi Menon in the lead.
