Whatever we do, everything is done with a hope of success. Success is the ultimate goal for everything we do and the meaning of success varies with the person. In the film industry, getting great collections to the stakeholders involved, giving the audience a good movie or a satisfying film is a success. Nani, who delivered a consecutive of eight hits has tasted failure with his last two films like Krishnarjuna Yuddham and Devadas. They broke his success streak. He is now coming with a movie titled “Jersey” which revolves around a struggling cricketer which is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri of Malli Raava fame. This film is produced by Sitara Entertainments which has Shraddha Srinath as the female lead and Anirudh Ravichander as music composer. Let’s see how it works on us as it is releasing into theatres today.

Arjun (Nani) is a fantastic batsman who plays in the Hyderabad team. He has a girlfriend Sara (Sraddha Srinath). She tells about her love to her father who disapproves and they both get their marriage registered with the help of their friends. At the same time, he waits for his entry into the Indian team which is not fulfilled due to corruption and he quits Cricket and joins in a government job that is offered to him to live happily with his wife and son. He is suspended from his job on a corruption charge and his son asks a jersey as his birthday present which he can’t afford due to his financial situation and his lack of job. What changes does this jersey bring in his life?

Cast and performance

Nani as Arjun is fantastic. This performance is one of the best performance in his career and this would be a memorable character for him. The two shades of his character are well etched and are relatable at every level. Shraddha Srinath complemented Nani very well in every sequence they are together. This role is a perfect debut material for her to get better roles further in Telugu but the only limitation is that she is limited to only a couple of expressions. Sibi Sathyaraj has done superb work as a coach. The child actor who played the son role is good. All other actors have done good work.

The story of Jersey is about a jersey. The screenplay is filled with a lot of emotions and dialogues are written accordingly.

Technical Departments

The songs for this film are composed by Anirudh Ravichander which are good to hear and addictive. He did a superb job in composing the background score too which syncs with the emotions of the film and enhances it. Sanu Varghese as the cinematographer of the film has done superb work in shooting delightful visuals. Editing is good. Production values of Sithara Entertainments are grand.

Music by Anirudh Ravichander

Cricket sequences may not appeal to all.

Jersey is a story of a father’s gift to his child. Each and every character is introduced without any disturbance to the story flow and there is not much to deviate the story. The first half sets the premise of the movie and the journey of Arjun towards his goal which is entertaining with situational comedy here and there. The second half of the movie has a few emotional sequences but it mainly consists of cricket matches which might not be appealing to some audience. The climax comes as a surprise which gives everyone a bit of sadness and sympathy for the character Arjun. Director Gowtam Tinnanuri has done fantastic work for this movie and it would be one of the best movies in the careers of everyone involved with the movie. To sum up, Nani is back on the success track with a noteworthy and memorable film of his career.
