It was just a couple of days ago that Suraj Venjaaramoodu bagged the national award for the Best Actor for the movie Perariyathavar. Jayaram was cut out of the final shortlist in the same category towards the end, for his performance in Shaji N Karun’s Swapaanam. Fahad’s North 24 Kaatham was declared the Best Malayalam Film at the same time.
Now it seems all three are nominated together and are the final contenders at the Kerala State Awards for the Best Actor category!
Yes, that’s right – Suraj again for Perariyathavar, Jayaram for Swapaanam and Nadan and finally, Fahad for North 24 Kaatham.
Incidentally, it was because he had committed to Nadan that Jayaram said no to Suraj’s role in Dr. Biju’s movie when the director approached him with it before.
Fate is strange indeed for this group of talented artists as the ironies and coincidences pile on.
With the awards being declared tomorrow, we’ll just have to wait and see on whom the honour is bestowed. Smart money is on ‘Bharath’ Suraj because of his national win in the same category but Jayaram is a former State award winner. But let’s not count out the always enterprising Fahad yet. He may come off with a surprise victory after all.
On that note, let’s hope for good judgement from the jury and put at ease Malayalam movie fans who are waiting for tomorrow’s announcement with anticipation.
