Jal’s wrath causes Rs. 82 crore damage

Visakhapatnam district collector Mr. J. Shyamala Rao informed that havoc caused due to the cyclone Jal had caused damage to the tune of Rs. 82 crores in the district.

The collector’s office has conducted extensive surveys to estimate the damage and revealed that paddy, vegetable and sugarcane crops have been completely destroyed in over 40,000 acres due to heavy floods. Other than these crops, cotton and other seasonal crops were also greatly damaged. The collector also informed that around 3,213 houses were damaged due to heavy rains. The collector also informed that the damage within the limits of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation was estimated to be around Rs 63 crore while the roads and buildings department suffered a loss of 10 crores.

Animal husbandry department has also suffered losses to the tune of 64 crore. However, the collector has informed the officials to come up with the final estimate as soon as possible, keeping the heavy rains in mind.
