A special IT tower will be set up near Kokapet in Hyderabad to cater to the needs of small and medium units. The IT principal secretary, Ms Ratnaprabha, said on Friday after a review meeting of the department there is a proposal to set up a similar IT tower in Visakhapatnam.
The government gave the green signal for the IT Investment Region in the financial district in the city with financial help from the Centre.
“The Centre has agreed to give additional funds to improve infrastructure and provide world-class transport to the IT-IR. The work will be launched as soon the plans get approval,” said the IT minister, Mr Venkata Reddy.
The government will announce its IT policy on July 1, Mr Venkata Reddy told mediapersons at the secretariat. The policy would encourage small and medium IT units with more incentives and subsidies.
“The policy is meant to attract SMEs in the IT sector towards Special Economic Zones. At present most of these units are located in Software Technology Parks. As the STPI policy is coming to an end, the new policy is framed in such a way that it will ensure smooth transition of IT business to SEZs,” said the minister.
The Chief Minister reviewed the IT sector’s progress with the minister and officials and approved setting up of the tower at Hyderabad.
