Reports indicate that veteran comedic actor Innocent who just got elected as the new Member of Parliament from Chalakkudy for the Left Wing, has offered to resign as the President of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists – a post which he has now held for several years.
The reason for this move, he says, is so that he can concentrate more on his new responsibilities as an MP. He also plans to cut down the number of movies he does in a year to around three for the same reason.
This, of course, means the actor would not completely retire from the movie industry to pursue his political career. He is currently acting in a pivotal role in Johnny Antony’s Bhaiyya Bhaiyya starring Kunchacko Boban, Biju Menon and marking the debut of Nisha Agarwal in Mollywood.
Innocent had won his seat in an impressive victory with a majority of around 14,000 votes over his opponents and has since gone to express his support for the new Prime Minister Narendra Modi with regards to any policies that serves the larger good of the nation.
He has also made it clear that his stand on many issues are different than those of the Communist Party and that if it came to a debate he would make them understand his reasons and try to win their support.
It would be interesting to see the talented actor perform the dual roles of the elected representative and movie artist simultaneously in the days and years to come…
