Once in a while, between the many commercial releases that the Indian film industry faces, a good conceptualized, small budget movie comes along to sweep our hearts. The Cannes Film Festival had the movie Masaan premiered under the Un Certain Regard list and ended up getting a standing ovation from the audience after the film was viewed FOR FIVE MINUTES!
Under a debut-director, Neeraj Ghaywan, ‘Maasan’ is a story about four people from a small town and the extremities that they face in a close-minded society. The whole crew broke into tears afterwards at the festival and felt very grateful. It is wonderful to see Indian films getting applauded at an international platform such as this.
