CENTURION: The start of the first cricket Test between India and South Africa was today delayed due to a wet outfield, here.
The toss was supposed to take place at 1000 hrs (local time) but it did not happen due to persistent rain since last night.
The delay may be a help to India, who has not declared the playing XI. Fitness of pacers Zaheer Khan and S Sreesanth are a concern and the duo will get more time to recover match fitness if the rain persists.
India is scheduled to play three Tests followed by a Twenty20 international and a five-match ODI series on their tour of South Africa that concludes on January 23.(PTI)
