Hyderabadi shot dead in the US

Prashanth Goinaka, a 28-yearold Hyderabadi, was shot dead by unidentified robbers in Oklahoma, USA on Sunday, barely two months after he had gone there to study MBA.

He is survived by his parents Rajaiah and Bharathi and a sister, Swathi, a medico. The family resides at Champapet here in the city. Rajaiah is a senior assistant in Medical & Health Department.

Prashanth, a B.Com graduate of St Thomas College, Dilsukhnagar, went to the US on Jan 25 and enrolled himself in the MBA programme of the International Technological University at Sunnyvale, California.

He had gone to Oklahoma city in search of a part-time job and secured one just three days ago at a convenience store. Two miscreants walked into the store on Sunday posing as customers. ‘‘They stole the cash from the cash register and gunned down Prashanth,’’ source said. The incident took place around 7:15 p.m. local time. Oklahoma Police are yet to identify the assailants.

Prashanth’s family members said he had gone to the US to earn money and take his parents there.

After his graduation, Prashanth reportedly went into merchant navy but could not cope with sea sickness. It was then that he decided to go to the US to realise his cherished dream of studying MBA. ‘‘Prashanth was a good dancer and had even worked as a junior artiste in some movies,’’ his cousin Chandrasekhar said. The bereaved family wants the government to ensure that his body is brought to the city at the earliest.
