Two extremely different movies strike the Bollywood silver screen tomorrow. Highway and [email protected], the films made in two seemingly apart genres are set to keep the weekend crowd busy hitting the theaters with families and popcorn.
Highway, directed by Imtiaz Ali, stars Randeep Hooda and Alia Bhatt in the leading roles. This out and out road trip film is all about a young girl who gets abducted in unusual circumstances and faces a crazy, fun filled and emotional sojourn with her captivator over days. The movie has an unconventional pairing of Randeep and Alia, two actors ‘ages’ apart when it comes to even experience. The pre release rushes of the trailer, songs and visuals have already generated a lot of interest with the movie lovers. The highlight of this movie are A R Rahman’s superbly composed nine tracks for the film, all outnumbering the rest when it comes to soulful renditions. Sung by a variety of singers and composed in different styles, Highway music is already climbing the music charts. Soona Saana, a song sung by actress Alia Bhatt, brings out the singing talent in her.
Now, what remains to be seen is whether Highway delivers what it promises – a dramatic and emotional story line that has a possibility of boring the viewer, unless exceptionally executed.
[email protected] Mall, on the other hand, is a complete thriller. Directed by Ragini MMS fame Pavan Kripalani, the movie stars Jimmy Shergill and Nushrat Bharucha in the leading roles. Although not a great star cast here, the movie looks to be a fun entertainer in the horror segment, for people seeking thrills of the supernatural. Predictably as suggested by the title, the story is set in a mall where all the spook happens.
Given that audience has a taste for thriller films in Bollywood, [email protected] Mall can serve this definite category with the required dose of fear and chills. However, one has to wait and watch if the horror element has been sufficiently well treated in an era of hi fi film making technology. The story for one, matters as it should be strongly convincing to show the devil within.
Overall, a great weekend filled with speculative choices made by the audience to choose the genre and the story that they want.
My guess – an equal turn out for both in great anticipation!
