The film stars, no matter how popular, should draw a line while exploiting their riches and medals. The High Court has now asked Dr Mohan Babu and ace comedian Brahmanandam to return their PadmaShri awards, following their misuse of the same in the last film, Dhenikaina Ready.
An award like Padma Shri bears a pedestal of respect in the Country and the jury opined that the value was degraded by showing off the same for the sake of a comedy film. Both Dr Mohan Babu and Brahmanandam were seen doing that, rather blatantly in the visuals. A special bench constituting Chief Justice Kalyan Jyothi Sengupta and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar have instructed the actors to surrender their honors in the process of plea submitted by BJP Leader, Indrasena Reddy.
Dr Mohan Babu tried to defend himself saying that actors are not liable for such acts and the film makers are. However, this fell in the deaf ears as the film was his home production, contradicting his reasoning.
In the event of respondents failing to comply with the court’s decision, the body will proceed with further investigation that would involve probing into tax returns of the actors from the IT department.
