Film News Anandan, who was a repository of cinema knowledge and who was considered as the encyclopedia on cinema news, is no more. He breathed his last at his residence in Chennai.
Anandan has won many awards such as Kalaimaamani from the Tamil Nadu government, Kalai Selvam from South Indian Artists Association and he had also been lauded by the American Biographical Institute of South Carolina (U.S.) as a veteran among 5000 people around the world.
Passionate about photography, Mr. Anandan started his career as a freelance photographer with Film News, which gave him the moniker. He slowly slipped into the role of a film historian after he started jotting down full details of the happenings in a film shoot. His first photographs of Sivaji Ganesan won appreciation from Kollywood artistes. While working as a reporter for film chamber, he used to meticulously collect details of films released on Fridays, actors, directors and musicians involved in them.
Considered as one of the first PROs of Kollywood, his consistent and systematic recording of film details and monthly and yearly compilations in a prescribed format specially designed by him, soon made Anandan a storehouse of information on Tamil movies. He also had a vast knowledge of films made in other South Indian languages and Hindi. His passion remained till the end.
Chitramala mourns the demise of this film news historian and conveys heartfelt condolences to the family. May his soul rest in peace.
