Exclusive: Junior NTR – Hits and Misses

As the audience awaits another big release of the year tomorrow, Ramayya Vastavayya directed by Harish Shankar that stars Junior NTR in the lead, we take a look at NTR’s rise and fall in the Industry with his many hits and misses.

1.Entry as a child star – NTR Junior debuted into Tollywood with Bala Ramayanam, directed by Guna Sekhar. He made his entrée as a child artiste. Coming from a legendary Tarakarama Rao family, everybody was smitten with his charms as the grandson of NTR, and could see through him as future superstar while he was just 13.

2.Re entry as a young actor – although NTR made his debut as a grown up with the film Ninnu Choodalani, the movie only fared badly at the box office. However, it was S S Rajamouli’s Student No 1 that got the breakthrough for the actor which became a huge hit in 2003.

3.Series of hits – NTR then followed it up with films like Aadi and Simhadri, which also became blockbusters, making the critics look at his talent closely. The film goers and the constant worshippers of NTR Sr rendered their great support to the budding star in the family.

4.Downfall with politicos – There was a sudden downfall in 2004, with films like Andhrawala and Naaga, political subjects failing badly at Box Office. NTR then tried to test his role with a family genre like Naa Alludu which did not fetch him any turnaround. Then came films like Samba, Narasimhudu and Ashok in 2005, which failed one after the other, making trade pundits question his credibility as an actor.

5.Surging back – This however, did not stop Junior Tarak to give up. His film Raakhi, that carries heavy sister sentiment, saw him perform to his best. The film released in 2006 although did not fare so well successfully, made him connect with the viewers in a special way.

6.Success high – The biggest turnaround happened with his film Yamadonga, that was released in 2007. The movie which was an inspiration from his grandfather’s film, Yamagola, went on to become one of the biggest blockbusters ever for that year. This was followed with Kantri, which was an average, but established him stable in the top lot.

7.Blockbuster mode – The year 2010 proved lucky for the Star, with films like Adurs and Brindavanam grossing as top earners. The spate of good luck and effort followed with films like Oosaravelli, Dammu and Baadshah, all of which were declared superhits with heavy collections.

8.After Baadshah, NTR Junior is all set to arrive with Harish Shankar’s Ramayya Vastavayya. Heavy budget, high expectations and positive pre talk – let us hope that Ramayya Vastavayya proves the hype it generated so far.

Ramayya Vastavayya releases all over tomorrow. The film has Samantha and Shruti Hassan playing the leads opposite NTR Junior. Looking forward to some adrenaline kicks, punch dialogues and mindblowing dancing from the talented actor.
