Making a movie and making it a successful one is not an easy task. It takes a lot of efforts, conviction and preferably talent and luck. No one can predict the success or failure of a movie. This is the reason why the success rate of films is very low. Everyone try to make a successful and hit movie but it purely is based on audience taste which changes from time to time. Harish Shankar, who made Gabbar Singh, one of the biggest blockbuster of Pawan Kalyan and Ramayya Vasthavayya, one of the biggest disaster of NTR. Efforts are same for both movies but result is not same. He is now coming with Allu Arjun in the name of DJ, after the success of Sai Dharam Tej starrer Subrahmanyam for sale. Let’s see how it works on us as it is releasing today in theatres.
DJ aka Duvvada Jagannadha Sastry (Allu Arjun) is a cook in Annapurna catering crew. He is always against the wrongdoings in the society and solves them in his own way. Royyala Naidu (Rao Ramesh) eyes on a place which is registered for the brahmin community and sends his men to get it on his name with planning. DJ confronts them and he goes to the place where the antagonist lives and is shocked to see him. Who is that antagonist? What’s there in between Dj and him? How he solve the problems? forms the rest of the story.
Cast and Performance
Allu Arjun is superb in his role as DJ and equally stylish. He delivered his best in action sequences and looked good on screen. His brahmin attire and his dialogue modulation for the role is a bit disappointing after the benchmarks set by NTR for that type of role in Adurs.Comparison is inevitable and it works in a negative way. Pooja Hegde is good and her glamorous show is a visual feast for the audience. She may become a hotcake for the movies as heroine from now. Rao Ramesh is superb in his role and his costume and get up thrills us. Thanikella Bharani is nice and Murli Sharma did up to his role. Vennela Kishore is humorous and Posani Krishna Murali did a very routine role and is good. All other actors are good to their roles.
Story of Duvvada Jagannadham aka DJ is good even though it has nothing new to excite. Screenplay is good and disappoints in the second half. Dialogues are well written.
Songs composed by Rockstar Devi Sri Prasad are nice. They are good to hear with great lyrical support from the lyricists. He did a superb job with the background score and helped the movie in his own way. Cinematography by renowned bollywood cinematographer Ayanka Bose is superb and he has given fantastic visuals for the movie. Editing by Chota K Prasad is good and could have done better job for the second half. Action sequences are well composed by Ram Laxman duo with some stylish moments. Production values are rich.
Allu Arjun as DJ
Songs by Rockstar DSP
Dialogues by Harish Shankar
Pooja Hegde glamour show
Disappointing second half
Duvvada Jagannadham aka DJ is a film that revolves around a scam of Agri Diamond and it’s a regular revenge drama where the protagonist fight for the benifit of the investors. It is always bad to compare someone with another but it is bound to happen because of the similarities. Though the character of DJ and the character of Chari has no similarities except for the brahmin attire, we except some fun and laughs given by Chari as it set a benchmark. It is a disappointing aspect if you expect so. Allu Arjun tried his best to make the character look convincing with his modulation but he couldn’t attain perfection. Director Harish Shankar has written a story which can be called as a routine one with some heroic moments and eye and ear feast songs. As said by him in audio release function that it is going to be a proud movie for fans, it is not going to be so in terms of content. To summarise, DJ is a regular commercial movie which can be watched for single time.
