Jeethu Joseph, who directed the original, will be the man at the helm of the Kollywood adaptation as well. The movie will be produced by Suresh Balaji and co produced by Kamal Haasan himself under the banner of his company, Rajkamal Films.
The rest of the cast and crew haven’t been announced yet, though there have been many rumours flying around about who will play the female lead in the movie. Meena, who tackled it in the Malayalam version and won the State Award for her performance, declined to do the Tamil version for unknown reasons.
It was reported in between that Kamal’s real life spouse and yesteryear heroine Gauthami might take on the role but that has neither been confirmed nor denied by the actress or those involved in the movie.
The part of the children too are yet to be cast along with those of the police officers, who were all pivotal in the first one.
The Tamil remake is said to have many changes in the story and certain details have been altered in order to appeal to the mass audiences in the state. For example, the family in the original were Christian whereas it has been reported that the remake will have a Hindu family.
The Telugu and Kannada remakes have been successful in their respective states, and have maintained the hype of the Mohanlal starrer, which initially held the title for the most successful Malayalam movie of all time.
Now we wait and see the progress of the Tamil version with Kamal bringing his magic too to an already amazing story.
