The ace comedian of Telugu Film Industry, Dharmavarapu Subramanyam passed away yesterday while getting treated for cancer. He was 59. He acted in over 80 Telugu films, and was popular as a comedian even before films in his early days with Television. His character, Markhandeyulu is still very well remembered from the popular telly series, Anandobrahma.
Dharamavarapu made his entry as a writer with Doordarshan, when popular director Jandhyala recognized his talent and introduced him in the film, Jayammu Nischayammu Ra. Dharmavarapu Subramanyam was easily one of the top league comic artistes of Tollywood. His roles were crucial, played remarkably well along with heroes.Some of his bests were with Victory Venkatesh and Nagarjuna.
Apart from films, Dharmavarapu was an active promoter and supporter of YSR Congress, and took a step back after the ex Chief Minister’s unfortunate demise.
The ace comedian will be sorely missed by the patrons and the friends in the film industry. His death came as a shocker to many and it is being said that he died of medical negligence while being treated for his liver cancer (malignancy) at Geeta Hospital, Dilsukhnagar. He is survived by his wife and two children.
