The Delhi government has urged the wives of four Bollywood actors to make their husbands refrain from endorsing pan masala aka tobacco products.
The request was made via letters to the wives of Ajay Devgn, Shah Rukh Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Govinda. Earlier, a similar letter was sent to all these stars but they did not respond to the Delhi health department so this time their wives got the letters.
“It is an humble appeal to you for encouraging Shah Rukh Khan not to participate in advertisements of pan masala in larger public health interest. Earlier a letter was written to Shah Rukh Khan urging him not to participate in such advertisements in public interest. Nonetheless, we (Delhi government) have not received any response till date, nor he has plugged doing such advertisements,” said a letter written to Shah Rukh Khan’s wife, Gauri Khan.
The letter added that even if the pan masalas do not contain nicotine, they surely contain areca nut, which is potential cancer causing agent.
The Delhi government also wrote similar letters to Ajay Devgn’s wife Kajol, Arbaaz Khan’s wife, Malaika Arora Khan and Govinda’s wife, Sunita Ahuja.
