There is one common goal or destination for everything we do in our life. There might be some failures but there would always be a takeaway from those failures and get back on the path to success. Srinu Vaitla, who was once a star director with his blockbuster movies made flop films continuously in the form of Aagadu, Brucelee and Mister. He is now coming with “Amar Akbar Anthony” with Ravi Teja as lead, with whom he made some five to six films and also this film marks the return of Ileana D Cruz to Telugu films after a long time. Srinu Vaitla has been saying in promotional interviews that he is coming with a very innovative content this time breaking all the limitations he had and he is guaranteeing a new kind of film with this latest outing. Lets see how innovative or how different his new film and what he learned from this previous mistakes as the movie is releasing into theatres today.
Amar (Ravi Teja) is released from jail after 14 years for a crime. He belongs to Fido family who runs Fido Pharma. They give some shares to four employees for their long time association with the company and they become greedy and aims to own whole 100% shares of the company and kills Fido family from which Amar and Aishwarya (Ileana D Cruz) escape. Amar knows all the loopholes of criminals in his jail term from fellow inmates and plan to seek revenge for the killing of his family. He kills two of the perpetrators and comes to know that he is becoming someone like Akbar and Anthony. He begins to change like one of them after hearing or seeing a particular sound or thing. What is the reason for his change in attitude? How he seek revenge on the remaining antagonists?
Cast and Performance
Ravi Teja has done nice job in playing the three characters which are similar in looks and styling. He looks very fresh in some scenes. Ileana D’Cruz is good but her character is limited. Jaya Prakash Reddy, Vennela Kishore, Srinivasa Reddy, Satya and Raghu Babu try to evoke few laughs. Tarun Arora and his gang of antagonists are okay in their roles.
The story of Amar Akbar Anthony is nice which is spoiled wholly by its formulaic screenplay. Dialogues are as usual in Srinu Vaitla style.
Thaman who is in a top form with his blockbuster albums and superb background scores has composed songs for this film and they are good. He did a good work in composing background score. Cinematography by Venkat C Dileep is nice. He has shot the movie in a unique color pattern to fit the thriller genre. Editing could be a lot better to make the movie more racy. Stunts and action sequences are good. Productions values of Mythri Movie Makers are grand.
Poorly written screenplay
Amar Akbar Anthony is a story of revenge for the death of protagonist’s family. Writer and director Srinu Vaitla has tried to add a new layer to this simple story with the three characters but it doesn’t help. First half takes no time in setting up the characters and premise and runs in a very predictable way. Screenplay doesn’t impress at all during the whole run of this half. Second half starts with heavy flashback and it goes into details of the childhood of leads. Srinu Vaitla, as said about discovering himself through his flops is a false statement and this movie proves it again. He create formulaic characters, formulaic scenes and comedy. Audience are evolving with time and tastes are changing. To sum up, this Srinu Vaitla film nothing but a formulaic disappointment.
