Actress Meena’s father Durairaj, 67, passed away yesterday night on June 19 of a cardiac arrest. Though he was rushed to the hospital in Chennai, the doctors had to declare him ‘dead on arrival’. He had passed on the way there.
The body is currently being kept at his residence in Srinagar, where friends, family and celebrities from the film fraternity who know the actress and her family have gathered to pay their respects.
Though Durairaj is a Tamilian, his wife Mallika is from the Kannur district of Kerala. Meena is their only daughter and the family had been settled in Chennai this entire time.
Durairaj played an important part in making Meena the star she is by supporting her career and her choices all throughout. The actress had dominated the south Indian cinema world in the nineties when she starred opposite pretty much every major star across all four languages – Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
She had recently won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in the epic hit Drishyam, and is set to reprise the role again in the Telugu remake of the movie.
We give our heartfelt condolences to Meena’s family and hope that they pull through this difficult and emotionally devastating time in their lives.
