Tollywood and Kollywood has suffered huge loss in 2016 with the death of 10 celebs. The Telugu film industry has producers, comedians, character artistes, writers, musicians, and actresses. When compared to previous years, Tollywood has witnessed the demise of less celebs this year.
While every year, a slew of influential persons leave us behind, 2016 seems to have been a year when those representing a generation quietly passed on. We pay tribute to those who have died this year. Here are the details of Telugu celebs that died due to various reasons in 2016:
Balamuralikrishna (1930 – 2016)
The voice that captivated the hearts of the people of Vijayawada three quarters of a century ago, has gone on to captivate audiences around the world in many genres of music – Carnatic classical, film, devotional, folk and jugalbandis.
K. Subhash (1959 – 2016)
He made his directorial debut in 1988 with the movie Kaliyugam and went on to direct movies such as Bramma, starring Sathyaraj, Ajith-starrer Pavithra and Abhimanyu and Sabhaash starring Parthiepan.
Jyothi Lakshmi: (1948-2016)
Yesteryear actress Jyothi Lakshmi passed away on 8 August in Chennai. She was reportedly suffering from Leukemia (blood cancer).
Kalabhavan Mani (1971 – 2016)
The actor’s sudden death came as a shock for the Malayalam fraternity and his hundreds of fans. Many, including senior actors and technicians, rushed to the hospital to pay their homage.
Kalpana (1965 – 2016)

Sai Prashanth: (1985–2016)
Television actor Sai Prashanth was found dead at his residence on 13 March. He committed suicide at his residence in Chennai. He suffered from depression in his life.
Balu Anand (1955-2016)
Tamil actor and filmmaker Balu Anand passed away on 3 June, after reportedly suffering a massive heart attack. The actor was 61.
AC Tirulokchandar (1930-2016)
Legendary filmmaker AC Tirulokchandar, also spelled as AC Trilogchander, passed away on 15 June, due to age related issues. He was 86.
Vietnam Veedu Sundaram: (1970-2016)
Scriptwriter and director Vietnam Veedu Sundaram, who had worked with legendaries like MGR, Amitabh Bachchan, Sivaji Ganeshan and Kamal Haasan, died on 6 August.
Panchu Arunachalam (1941–2016)
Veteran writer and filmmaker Panchu Arunachalam passed away on 9 August. He was suffering from age-related issues.
Sasi Sankar: (1957–2016)
Malayalam and Tamil filmmaker Sasi Shanker breathed his last on 10 August. He was aged 49.
Na Muthukumar: (1975-2016)
Na Muthukumar died of jaundice at his residence in Chennai on 14 August.
Lyricist Annamalai: (1967-2016)
Noted lyricist Annamalai passed away on 27 September, after suffering a severe heart attack. He was 49.
TV actress Sabarna Anand: (1987-2016)
Popular film and television actor Sabarna Anand aka Suguna was found dead at her residence in Semmathamman Nagar, Chennai, on 10 November. She was 29.
Comedian, theatre artist and journalist Cho Ramaswamy breathed his last on 7 December. He died of cardiac arrest.
