Comic actor Ravi Baswani died of a heart attack in Simla yesterday (July 27). The 64-year-old had been in the city scouting locations for a film he planned to direct. Baswani gained fame for his role in ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, the cult comedy from the 80s. He even won a Filmfare award for his role in the movie. He’d made his Bollywood debut with ‘Chashme Baddoor’.
Despite those promising beginnings, Baswani didn’t focus on Bollywood in later years, though he was spotted on and off in movies like ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ and ‘Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya’.
However, he remained close to industry friends including Anupam Kher. Kher posted on his Twitter page, "Just got to know that Ravi Baswani passed away. How sad and terrible. Wonderful man. A gypsy by heart. Always happy and helpful. RIP."
