Actor Kadhal Dhandapani passed away yesterday, on July 20th, at a private hospital in Chennai. He was 71 years old and succumbed to a cardiac arrest sometime in the morning.
The actor’s prefix to his name, Kadhal, got added because of his indelible performance in the 2004 hit movie by the same name starring Bharath and Sandhya. His distinctive look and signature screen presence ensured that he was noted by the fans in every performance he gave, however small the role might have been.
Dhandapani was active in multiple industries in the south – Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. In fact, though he appeared only in a couple of movies in Malayalam, he is still remembered by the fans in the Mammootty starrers Rajamanikyam and Pokkiriraja.
Some of his other memorable films in Tamil included Vijay’s Velayudham, Arya’s Vattaram, Sathyaraj’s Englishkaran, Sivakarthikeyan’s Varuthapedatha Valibar Sangam, Myskin’s Chithiram Pesuthadi, Raghava Lawrence’s Muni, Jayam Ravi’s Unakkum Enakkum Something Something etc.
His upcoming movies are Suriya’s Anjaan and Bharath’s Aintham Thalaimurai Siddha Vaithiya Saalai. He was also shooting for the Sarathkumar film Sandamarutham.
Sarathkumar expressed his grief at the loss of a beloved colleague and tweeted this to the fan community:
My deepest condolences to friend and colleague who worked with me yesterday Kadal Dhandapani has left this world to the heavenly abode RIP.
Many of the actor’s fans too have expressed their condolences to his family and their sorrow via messages on social media pages as a tribute to his memory.
His body will be moved from the Vijaya Hospital in Chennai to his native place in Dindugal for the last rites and ensuing ceremonies.
