The mysterious disappearance of a 5-year-old boy from Madhapur a couple of days ago turned out to be a case of the mother selling her child for Rs 40,000 to overcome the financial difficulties.
The poverty-stricken woman sold away her son, Mahesh, without the knowledge of her husband.
According to police, the couple, Devamma and Narsimhulu, are daily wage earners and live at Madhapur.
A person, Maisayya, convinced Devamma to sell away her child to tide over the financial crisis. Devamma agreed to the deal but did not sound her husband about it as she was sure that he would not agree to it.
Maisayya brought a woman, Sujatha, to whom Mahesh was handed over after she had paid Rs 40,000 to Devamma. As his son went `missing’, Narsimhulu lodged a complaint with the Madhapur police on July 12.
During the course of their investigating police found that the boy had been sold by his mother, and arrested Devamma, Maisayya and Sujatha. Mahesh was handed over to his father and the accused were remanded in judicial custody.
Police said Sujatha `purchased’ the boy as she does not have a male child. She has three daughters.
