It’s raining biopics in the coming year in Tollywood. Right from the lives of celebrities to sportsmen, cinema’s fascination with real life stories isn’t new.
The film industry is all about glam and glitter, and with increasing biographical films based on eminent personalities, the common man’s story often gets unnoticed. Yes, there have been famous personalities who have led extraordinary lives and it is no surprise movies are made based on them.
However, there have been instances when some common people with uncommon stories made headlines and everybody including Tollywood took notice. From small independent cinema to multi-starrer big budget films, Tollywood is all set to witness the release of biopics on eminent personalities this year as well, a trend it chooses to carry forward from last year.
Earlier we have seen biopic movies like Raktha Charitra, Vangaveeti and others. This year 2017 seems biopic trend in Tollywood and filmmakers are getting ready to make the films on famous personalities. Here are few examples.

SR NTR Biopic by Balakrishna:
Legendary actor turned filmmaker NTR son himself announced recently that he will be doing a biopic on his father’s cinematic and political legacy. The film will be directed by Teja and the shooting will commence soon. As of now, pre-production works are progressing at a jet speed.
Lakshmi’s NTR:
This is also a biopic on legendary actor NTR and it will be directed by RGV. The cast and crew of the film is yet to be finalized. The shooting will progress soon.
Lakshmi’s Veera Grandham:
Another Producer cum director Kethireddy Jagadeeswara Reddy also making a biopic on NTR and that movie titled as “Lakshmi’s Veera Grandham”.
Mahanati Savitri:
Talented actress Savitri fondly known as Mahanati’s biopic shooting is progressing at a jet speed. Keerthy Suresh will be seen as Savitri. Several famous actors will be seen in this film and it is set for April release in 2018. The film is directed by Nag Ashwin.
Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy biopic as Syee Raa:
After making a comeback into Tollywood after a decade, Megastar Chiranjeevi is all set to do a biopic on Telugu freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy under Surendar Reddy’s direction. The film has been titled as Syee Raa, the shooting will commence soon and is set to hit theaters in 2018.
Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao biopic:
Director Madhu Sreedhar Reddy had announced that he would be making a biopic on Telangana CM to showcase his struggle for carving the separate state of Telangana from erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. The film is expected to hit the screens in 2018.
Pullela Gopichand biopic:
Pullela Gopichand was an ace Badminton player and winner of the All England Open Badminton Championships in 2001. He presently serves as the National Coach of the Indian Badminton Team.
Sudheer Babu is looking forward to star in Indian Badminton maestro Pullela Gopichand biopic. National Award-winning director Praveen Sattaru’s film on the former Indian badminton champion Pullela Gopichand will be made in Telugu, Hindi and English.
