Sonam Kapoor dazzled as she walked the ramp for Manish Malhotra’s couture show as a surprise showstopper on the third-day of the ongoing Synergy1 Delhi Couture Week.
Dressed in a white lehenga and heavily embroidered red backless overcoat with embellished gold work, Sonam opened the designer’s bridal collection inspired by the majestic opulence of royalty that prevailed in India during 1930-1940.
Urmila Matondkar also made a rare appearance for Manish’s show.
"I have reinterpreted the 1930 and 1940s style of clothing in my designs. The collection had a touch of everything that a couture garment should have. I felt it’s the time to move away from duplication and revisit the classic style with a glamorous look," said Manish.
The women’s wear included ghagaras, lehengas, suits and saris and the colour palatte ranged from cherry reds and burgundy with tones of mint green, aqua, and off whites.
Unlike other designers, Manish was the first one to show both women’s wear and men’s wear on the ramp.
The men’s wear collection showcased heavily embroidered sherwanis in shades of black, burgundy, royal blue, beige and gold.
"I also showcased men’s wear line because I thought – why keep the bridegrooms alone? They are as conscious of their style nowadays as the brides. It’s time they also get their due importance," said Manish.
Also present in the front row was Sonakshi Sinha, who previously walked the ramp for Shantanu-Nikhil’s show, besides Shweta Bachchan Nanda and Jas Arora.(IANS)
