NRI director gets a month in jail

Filmmaker Kaizad Gustad, who directed Katrina Kaif’s debut film ‘Boom’. has been sentenced to a month in prison for causing the death of his assistant due to negligence. He has also been fined Rs. 75000.

In 2004, Nadia Khan (a 26-year-old UK citizen) died on the tracks of the Mahalaxmi Railway Station in Mumbai while shooting for Kaizad’s film ‘Bombay Central’. Then, Kaizad was charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and was imprisoned for some time before he was granted bail. The initial charges carried a maximum prison term of 10 years but the court decided later that the filmmaker would be tried for lesser charges – rash and negligent act.
