Sometimes, you don’t mind being taken for granted if your funny bone is busy being tickled. It used to happen a lot a decade back with David Dhawan’s movies. However in the last few years, there is no trace of any such out-and-out comedies being successful. In fact, David Dhawan himself could not recreate his own magic. To all those who miss such laugh-riots, Main Tera Hero comes as a relief. Papa Dhawan’s movie with Beta Dhawan is HILARIOUS!
Seenu (Varun Dhawan) is a street-smart youngster who falls in love at first sight with Sunaina (Illeana). A corrupt cop Angad (Arunoday Singh) is after Sunaina and no one in the college dares to talk to her. While Seenu lock horns with Angad , Sunaina is kidnapped unexpectedly. The rest of the film is about how Seenu using his wit and will gets back Sunaina.
Remake of a Telugu film Kandireega, Main Tera Hero is a set of comical sequences rather than a story. Despite not having a head and tail, the film has the humour quotient so strong and it works consistently throughout the film. The movie wraps up in 2 hours with non-stop fun and four masthi songs. The movie defies logic for sure, but is well-compensated with its hilarity. It also has some double-entendre dialogues but David keeps a check on it by limiting it to very few. Millap Zaveri’s one-liners are definitely rib-tickling.
To compensate for a mindless flick, you need to have actors with super comic timing apart from the funny lines. Main Tera Hero has an apt cast. Firstly Varun Dhawan is a show-stealer in this film. He is a 6-pack Govinda who simply excelled in generating humour. When it’s about doing an over-the-top comedy, there is a thin line between being entertaining and annoying. Varun seems to know the difference. Not to forget he has an amazing confidence! Of course Anupam Kher, Rajpal Yadav and Saurabh Shukla contribute their part effortlessly too. Arunoday Singh surprises you!
On the flipside, Nargis’s acting skills have degraded and she offers nothing but oomph in the movie. And another minor drawback is the culmination which looks deliberately delayed just to accommodate some more comedy scene before it.
All in all, a paisa vasool entertainer. You won’t mind watching the mindless movie which will definitely bring the house down.
