A junior artiste, who used to sneak into houses on the pretext of taking a portion on rent and steal valuables, was arrested today and stolen laptops and mobile phones were recovered from him.
The 23-year accused, Md Sameer Khan, a resident of Chandrayangutta, worked as a junior artiste in films like ‘Hyderabad Nawabs’ and Coin Box,’ police said.
According to the police, Sameer used visit door-to-door selling leather belts in various localities. In doing so he would identify houses which have `To let’ boards and approach them as a prospective tenant to make enquiries. While the inmates were busy talking with him, he would divert their attention and snatch away mobile phones, laptops and other valuables, police said. Sameer committed several offences in such a manner and police recovered 14 laptops and 18 mobile phones from him. Sameer had been arrested by the Saroornagar and SR Nagar police in the past.
Gold seized: Meanwhile, Punjagutta police arrested a burglar who was involved in 10 property offences. D Chinna Yellaiah, a native of Mahabubnagar, was caught at Ameerpet while travelling on a two-wheeler with a handbag containing a huge quantity of gold.
Police said Yellaiah was involved in eight house burglaries and two automobile offences. Police recovered 32 tolas of gold and one motorcycle worth Rs 6.25 lakh from him.
