Ilayaraja files Police complaint

Music maestro Ilayaraja has lodged a complaint against Echo Recording Company in Chennai. He claims that he has received no royalty amount for about 30 years. He said that he had offered the rights of his Tamil and Telugu film music compositions of the 1980s songs to Echo but the company failed to pay the royalty amount.

Ilayaraja and Tamil Film Producers Council jointly met the city police commissioner on Thursday and filed a complaint against the Echo Recording Company, for not paying him royalties for his music in that period. The musician adds that this royalty amount should actually have been shared between the producers and him.

The complaint was filed following a recent news report that the Echo Recording Company is in talks with another company to sell the rights of his Telugu films for about Rs. 25 crores. He also said Echo had already sold foreign rights and Telugu rights for his music without his permission. It is also learnt that the rights to his music had been sold for use in mobile phones, without his permission. Legal action has been initiated in this regard.
