Bangalore Rural police have arrested three members of a gang that robbed tourists near Nandi Hills.

One of the arrested, Kiran, is a Kannada film actor. Police said he has acted in films like Malleswaram 18th Cross, Moorane Class Manja BCom Bhagya and Life Style.

Manjunath and Viru, a resident of Yeshwanthapur, were the other two who were arrested.

Police said Viru was the first to be arrested after vigil was increased in the area following many complaints of robbery.

Police said one Wasif Nissar filed a complaint with Viswanathapura police station on July 2010.

The complaint said he and his friends were returning from Nandi Hills early one morning when four men on two motorcycles followed them.

It said the men forced them to stop, assaulted them and fled with their mobile phones, bikes, cash and two gold chains.

Police increased patrolling in the area, which led to the arrest of Viru.

During interrogation, Viru revealed that he worked with some associates. Police said his arrest led to the recovery of a car, a motorcycle and two gold chains.

He also revealed that Kiran was the team leader.

Kiran, a college dropout, comes from a good financial background.

Police said Kiran was also fond of drag races.

He and his associates visited Nandi Hills and robbed the valuables of the tourists.

Viru and Kiran have been sent to judicial custody. Efforts are on to arrest the others.
