Dolly Ki Doli Review: Looteri Dulhan is an Entertainer

India is a land with various diversities omnipresent. You all have heard about Looteri Dulhans, who entice and allure grooms, marries them and runs away with all the riches after marriage. From the house of Arbaaz Khan Productions we see a quirky, modern day tale of Dolly the pretty bride, who’s next target could be anybody.

The film is short and tangy sweet, with all the masalas present, making it a commercial entertainer. The film’s essence lies in the whole marriage concept and how the bride hauls grooms and their families. While Dolly is considered her lucky name by the dupe syndicate, Sonam is refreshingly good in the film.

Amidst all heavily-coated masala entertainers releasing throughout the year, “Dolly Ki Doli” is that tale which will lighten your mood and at the same time depict what really happens in real life. While the film has its downs too, you will not feel entrapped in the hall and will enjoy the ride.

Star Performances:

Sonam Kapoor the fashionista, has been ruling the box-office since quite some years, but now we do see Sonam getting the hang of the roles she is been pulling off. Sonam as Dolly is really convincing and she eases into the skin of the character. She isn’t loud but is subtle. She has juggled many caps on screen and does a fine job in the various shades she sports in the film’s plot. After Raanjhaana, Sonam had established herself as not only a pretty face, but even as an actor. And with Dolly Ki Doli, she keeps the pedigree alive.

Pulkit Samrat is a splitting image of Robin Hood Pandey from Dabangg series. The way he dresses, the look he sports, the way he talks, and also the poise. Even his screen name is Robin Singh, so we do know the genotype of this Police Officer comes from our Lovely Dabangg, Salman Khan. It wasn’t really surprising to see Dabangg reference in an Arbaaz Khan flick. Also we know, Pulkit is a Salman buff, so he incorporated the Salmania into his role too. But a little more authenticity could have added more glam to the role if it had been more realistic and not highly inspired.

Rajkumar Rao is a really fine actor, and everybody will claim that. We have seen him in serious roles so far on screen, so this time around it was a delightful change to see him in a lighter role. He is the Harayanvi, who is one of Dolly’s victims. In the shoes of a madly in love aashiq, as Sonu, Rajkumar really shines too bright.
Varun Sharma is known for his natural humor and he has kept the lineage intact with his role. He is that Punjabi mama’s boy who we can spot in close vicinity. He acts well and induces humor without effort on screen with his maneuvers.

The whole Dolly ki Gang is mighty impressive and does a cogent job! Saif Ali Khan’s cameo is placed quite well. We did love the Nawab in the role of a Nawab.

Technicalities:

Abhishek Dogra in his directorial debut has passed with good grades. He has made a film which is light and crispy and you wouldn’t cringe while watching it. Though a few technical errors were present in the plot and some junctures in the plot didn’t match up, yet overall the film isn’t bad. It is scripted by Abhishek and Umashankar Singh, conjointly, so the script could have been better. The climax was shown as piece of cake and maybe in the real world, things don’t fall into place so easily. Well! No Police Officer would do what Robin Singh pulled off. The film’s duration might have not let them go deep into the details but it is so revivifying to see a short Bollywood film that doesn’t stretch unnecessarily.

The film’s music is okayish. Songs are rustic and bring the flavors from all over the country. It is packed with item song, party track, romantic number and a quirky end credit song. Cinematography is pretty decent by Saurabh Goswami and the film flows smoothly.

Watch or not:

If you are seeking change from all the mundane masala commercial and hard-hitting Bollywood films, then do watch Dolly Ki Doli. The film is packed with decent acting and a witty story. This Looteri Dulhan isn’t disappointing on screen and is an Entertainer!

Thumbs Up: Storyline, acting

Thumbs Down: Ending

Yawns: Not really
