Brother-Sister Relationship Movies in Tollywood

With Rakhsha Bandhan being celebrated all over the country, sisters are praying for the well-being and long lives of their brothers. Raksha Bandhan celebrates the love and affection of brothers and sisters.

Celebrating the festival and valuing the relations, few Telugu movies were made based on the Brother and Sister sentiment in Tollywood. These films have always entertained the Telugu audience and took firm position in their memories.

Let’s take a look into some iconic films exploring this sacred relationship of brother and sister:

Rakta Sambandham(Blood relation) is drama film in which Raju (NTR) and Radha (Savitri) are affectionate sibblings. The plot revolves around how Raju become’s rich and Radha get separated from her husband. Raju finally finds that the real happines is living with his sister. In a dramatic screenplay both the sibblings unite and die together.

Sobhan babu who is a struggling poet, writes all his poets in the name of Nagabushanam-his friend, as he needs money to marry his sister. Nagabushanam makes a fortune out of Sobhan babu’s writings and get’s addicted to new habits. As Sobhan Babu’s sister is married to Nagabushanam, he cant question him for his acts. Later on Vanisri-a rich person and fan of Nagabushanam’s writings finds out that he is a fraud and Sobhan babu is the real writer. She comes up with a plan to expose Nagabhushanam and publish the truth.

Muddula Mavayya (1989): Nandamuri Balakrishna, Vijayashanti

This film is based on a revenge-drama gener. In a village where Ranga Rao (Raja Krishnamoorthy) is a richman and Raja (Nandamuri Balakrishna) who is always against Ranga Rao for his conspiracy’s. In the past Raja sister and Ranga Rao son fall in love and got married with Raja’s support. Later on Ranga Rao’s son goes missing, while Raja’s sister is pregnent. Raja comes to know that his is the master plan of Ranga Rao and angrly kills his son who was hiding in his father’s house. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.

Chanti (1992): Venkatesh, Meena:

Chanti (Venkatesh) and Nadini (Meena) are the lead pair in this drama. Nandini is was brought up by her three brothers in an restrictive manner, where as chanti is grown in the village by singing songs and entertaing the villagers. Later on Chanti becomes the bodyguard of Nandini and as the story moves she falls in love with him and marries him. Her brother’s find’s out the true and torture’s Nandini and Chanti’s mother who sent away Chanti from the village after knowing the marriage event. She is saved in time by her son and and movie ends with Nandini’s recover.

Palnati Pourusham (1994): Krishnam Raju, Radhika

This was a remake of Tamil film Kizhakku Cheemayile 1993. The film tells the story of a brother and a sister. Krishnam Raju and Radhika have been praised for their roles in the film. Raju won the Filmfare Best Actor Award (Telugu).

Mega Star Chiranjeevi is seen as brother to 5 sisters in this movie. Madhav (Chiranjeevi) and his five sister’s have lost their mother at very small age. Their father is in jail for murdering their mother. The story goes on as Madhav protects his sisters from youth in his neighbour, for which he will be called as Hitler. Later on his sister’s start hating him for his fierce protectiveness and leaves him alone. The villains see an opportunity to strike at Madhav and kidnap his unprotected sisters. Madhav rescues them and his sisters ask his pardon for defying him. All ends well.

Siva Rama Raju (2002): Jagapathi Babu, Nandamuri Harikrishna, Venkat

Siva Rama Raju (Jagapati Babu), Rama Raju (Venkat), Raju (Sivaji) and Swathy (Monica) are siblings who belong to a royal dynasty and at present they are orphans. Siva Rama Raju takes the onus of raising his siblings. In such a situation, Siva Rama Raju happens to marry off his sister to a guy whose family is on the mission of taking revenge on him. The rest of the film deals with how the sister and brothers travel hard to unite.

The film was a remake of the Kannada super hit ‘Thavariga Ba Thangi’. Action king Arjun, Swapna Madhuri played lead roles as Brother and Sister. This low budget film is the biggest hit in 2003.

Meenakshi (Keerthi Reddy) and Arjun (Mahesh Babu) are twins. Meenakshi falls in love with Uday(Raja)- his college mate, and tells the same to her family. She gets married to Uday and he leaves abroad on job purpose. Uday’s father and mother make many attempt’s to kill Meenakshi as they had lost a chance to grab a millionaire’s property by arrange marriage. Arjun meets the plans to kill his sister and saves each time forms the story.

Annavaram (2006): Pawan Kalyan, Sandhya:

Annavaram is a typical brother ans sister relation story. Annavarm(Pawan Kalyan) and Varam(Sandhya) are sibblings with lot of attachment. Sandhya marries Shiva Balaji who stays in Hyderabad. As the story move forward Varam becomes pregnent and Narasimha (Venu Madhav) friend of Annavaram will be killed by a goon who earlier also threatens Shiva Balaji from taking his canteen business. Annavaram takes up the responsibilty of eliminating goons and makes hyderabad a clean city by the time Varam delivers a baby boy.

Rakhi (2006): NTR jr, Manjusha:

Rakhi is a revenge story of a man on men for harassing women. Going into the plot, for Rakhi (Jr.NTR) his sister Gayathri (Manjusha) is everything for him. She is married to a software professional. The greedy in-laws burn her alive for more dowry. Devastaed by this, Rakhi kills men who harasses women. Finally he kills the ministers who murdered his sister’s friend in the court.

Gorintaku (2008): Rajasekhar, Meera Jasmine

Ashok (Rajasekhar) and Lakshmi (Meera Jasmine) are sibblins. They are married to Aakash (Aakash) and Nandini(Arti Agarwal) and lead their lifes succesfully. After few years Aakash is sent to jail in a cheque bounce case, leaving Lakshmi and her children alone. Lakshmi turns towards her brother for help, but will not be allowed to meet him by Nandini and her aunt. She later suicides along with her children, learning this Ashok also dies proving that they are inseparable even in death.
