AR Rahman to perform at UN on Independence Day

Musician, AR Rahman is all set to perform on August 15th in the UN General Assembly, the iconic hall from where global leaders address the world and legendary performers enthrall an international audience on the occasion of India’s 70th Independence Day celebrations. Rahman had got international recognition when he bagged two Oscars in 2009, for Danny Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionaire”.

As for the sources, AR Rahman will become the second Indian musician to perform at UN after veteran Carnatic singer MS Subbulakshmi, where she had performed in UN General Assembly hall 50 years ago on October 1966. This was revealed by India’s ambassador to the UN Syed Akbaruddin tweet “Jai Ho to echo @UN ? AR Rahman to perform @un in homage to MS Subbulakshmi on India’s 70th Independence Day.”.
